Welcome to the WikiGrammar
of Macuiltianguis Zapotec

Started in March 2007, this wiki is initially being created by John Foreman and his students enrolled in the Native American Languages class offered at Utica College. We are working in collaboration with a native speaker to develop and post teaching materials for the language of Macuiltianguis Zapotec, an indigenous language of Oaxaca, Mexico. The material presented here is intended to be used in language teaching, preservation and revitalization efforts. For additional information, including a linguistics-oriented description of the language, please see Professor Foreman's UCLA linguistics dissertation.

For Students/Contributors

I have now created a page for students and other contributors that contains information on what needs to be added and how to go about it. It includes a tutorial, templates and other resources. Please visit it and add to it or refine the content!

For Visitors

Top
The information being presented here is intended for anyone interested in the learning the language. We are developing a series of weekly language lessons which someone could work through to develop a basic understanding of the language. These lessons, as they become available, can be viewed by following the links under the SideBar menu, which you can click to your right. In addition, you will find there a link to an expanding glossary. In the future, we hope to expand upon these lessons with audio, video, pictures, and text examples. In addition, we hope to eventually have up a complete grammar of the language.

We hope you enjoy learning about this fascinating language. Please contact us if you have any questions or comments or if you wish to contribute.

For Volunteers (Contributors Wanted)

Top
If you would like to contribute to this wiki, we would love to have your help. If you are a speaker of the language or know someone who is, if you have a background in linguistics, if you are just interested in languages (or wikis!)--whatever--we would love to have your help. Anything you can do to make our grammar lessons more helpful, any additional information you can provide, any analysis you would like to contribute would all be most appreciated.

We particularly need help in translating all of our materials into (Mexican) Spanish in order to better serve the entire native speaking community. In addition, we also could use help in analyzing and transcribing tones in the language. Data can be provided for the latter (and potentially for other areas of the grammar). If you are able to help with either of these issues or would like to contribute in some other way, contact us.
